BREAST LIFT SURGERY (MASTOPEXY)
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, excessive weight loss, the effect of gravity along with the increasing age may cause loosening of the ligaments holding the breasts up and thus, a complaint of sagging may occur in the breasts. In such a case, the nipple locates lower than where it should be, and the breast tissue in the upper parts flattens and is collected downwards.
During breast lift surgery, the nipple is lifted up to the normal position in accordance with the height and body structure of patient and the sagging breast is reshaped. The surgery is performed under general anaesthesia and takes about 2-3 hours. According to the extent of sagging, the size of the incisions to be made on the breast may vary. A scar is formed only around the nipple in the case of mildly sagging breasts, while a 5-cm scar extending from the nipple downwards may be added if the extent of sagging is much more. Scars may be noticeable, pink and swollen at first, however they become invisible over time.
Usually pain does not arise after the surgery. The drains are pulled out within 1-2 days. There is no need to remove the sutures since an absorbable suture material is used. The patient is recommended to wear a compression bra-corset and not to do heavy sports for 6 weeks. The outcomes are quite longstanding if conditions such as weight changes, breastfeeding, pregnancy does not arise in the course of time. Such conditions may lead to sagging at varying extents again.
