ABDOMINAL LIFT SURGERY
Abdominal lift surgery, in other words abdominoplasty, is a surgical procedure in which excess fat and sagging skin tissue present in the middle or lower area of the abdomen are removed and abdominal muscles are tightened and strengthened.
Abdominal lift surgery is ideal for patients with sagging abdominal tissue. It is not a suitable method for overweight patients, such patients are recommended to lose weight with diet and sports first, and then undergo an abdominal lift surgery for remaining sagging tissues. The most suitable candidates for this surgery are patients who gave birth and due to that, developed weakness in the abdominal wall muscles, have had loosening and stretch marks in the skin. With this surgery, both excess cracked skin is removed and weakened abdominal muscles are supported.
Abdominal lift surgery is a procedure performed under general anaesthesia. It is carried out by making an incision that is hidden in the lower fold line of the abdomen, extending between the two pelvic bones. Also an incision around the belly is made. The skin and fat tissue under the belly is removed. Tightening and supporting sutures are made on the abdominal muscles. The part on the belly is moved down and the abdomen is closed up. Two drains are inserted to prevent blood from accumulating inside and the drains are pulled out in 3-4 days. 2 days of hospital stay would be enough. It is necessary to use a corset for up to 6 weeks and to pay attention to the walking position during the first few weeks.
If patient is a smoker, she should discontinue it 2 weeks before and until 2 weeks after the surgery. It is recommended to discontinue vitamin E and aspirin at least 1 week before the surgery.
Abdominoplasty can also be performed in combination with cosmetic breast surgeries, liposuction or some other surgeries (uterine, ovarian surgeries, etc.) for correcting the body contour.
It takes about 2-3 weeks to return to work. The surgical scars may become noticeable, pink, swollen in the first few months, becoming hardly visible over time. Pregnancy is possible after the surgery but postponing the surgery after the delivery is necessary for patients considering pregnancy in terms of obtaining permanent results. Abdominal lift procedure is a surgery which provides good results, is pleasing for the patient and long-lasting unless not too much weight change occurs.
